Norman Builders remodeled this primary bathroom in Byfield, MA, completed in 2019 with an $85,000 budget band: a custom stained wood double vanity, a frameless glass shower with stone tile on the walls and ceiling, an integrated soaking tub and a skylight.
Warm Wood and Natural Stone
The design pairs warm stained wood with extensive natural stone, custom cabinetry and layered lighting. Stone covers the shower, the tub surround, the floor and the wall accents, and the dark wood vanity gives the room its contrast.
A Double Vanity with Real Storage
The custom double vanity gives each person a sink, counter space and storage. Its stained wood cabinetry runs up past the counter to frame the large mirrors, with extra cabinets, open display niches and recessed lights built into the surround. Undermount porcelain sinks sit in the stone countertop.
The Shower: Stone on the Walls and the Ceiling
The large glass-enclosed shower is the centerpiece. Natural stone tile wraps the walls and continues across the ceiling, a detail most tiled showers stop short of. Inside are multiple shower heads, handheld sprays and built-in niches behind frameless glass, over a natural stone mosaic floor.
A Soaking Tub in the Same Stone
An integrated soaking tub sits beside the shower in a matching stone surround, with a long recessed niche above the deck, so bathing and showering each have their own area.
Daylight from Above
A skylight brings natural light into the middle of the bathroom, and recessed ceiling lights and wall sconces cover the evenings. Polished chrome plumbing fixtures add a crisp contrast to the wood and stone.
How It Compares with Our Other Primary Baths
Byfield is the oldest of the four primary baths in our project library and has the most natural stone. The 2022 bath in Andover's Phillips area ($80,000) used marble-look porcelain floor to ceiling with a shower bench; the 2026 Boxford bath ($65,000) centered on a freestanding soaking tub with a heated towel warmer and LED mirrors; and the 2026 spa-inspired Andover bath ($60,000) paired a white oak double vanity with brushed brass. Timelines and permits for bathroom work are covered on our bathroom remodeling page.
