From Our Newburyport Galleries
Three Newburyport homeowners have written reviews of our work: a renovation of a 120-year-old house that ran six months from October 1st, a front porch with a rear screen room and deck, and a home addition. Our older photo gallery also holds nine Newburyport projects, from a custom new home to additions, kitchens and bathrooms.
A 120-Year-Old House, From October 1st for Six Months
George C. wrote that the renovation of a 120-year-old house hit "many obstacles" once the walls were opened, yet the finished house matched the designer's drawings, helped by recommendations from Dale, Ryan's father and a master carpenter. Work ran from October 1st for six months, with the crew sometimes clearing snow to get inside during the last two and a half months, and absorbed added requests such as tearing out and rebuilding a fireplace.
A Front Porch, a Screen Room and a Deck
Jeff and Nancy L. wrote that when a tree outside the original scope had to come down, Ryan subcontracted it at a lower cost instead of leaving it to them, and that the porch, screen room and deck "look even better than we originally imagined."
A Home Addition
Don Z. wrote that the home addition is "the envy of the entire neighborhood." All three Newburyport reviews are printed in full below.
Nine Newburyport Projects in Our Photo Gallery
Our photo gallery holds nine Newburyport projects: a custom new home, three additions (a covered porch addition, a living space addition and a primary suite addition), three kitchens and two bathrooms. The photos on this page come from the new home and the covered porch addition. Those galleries do not list years or budgets, so ask us about any project you would like to know more about.
Older Homes, Additions and Planning
Most of the Newburyport work in our reviews and gallery is additions and remodeling of existing houses. As a guide from our planning materials, an addition takes about 3 to 9 months and a whole-home renovation 4 to 12 months or more, depending on scope; George C.'s renovation took six months. As a design-build company we handle design, permits, inspections and construction with one team. On George C.'s renovation the owners had their own designer and some of their own subcontractors, and our crew coordinated with them. See our home additions, whole-house renovations and new home construction pages.
Three Written Reviews From Newburyport
Thank you Ryan for your professional management of the project. We appreciate your attention to details and your flexibility throughout the duration of the project. In the case of the tree removal, we felt you took the extra effort to get the work skillfully performed at a lower cost. While this work was not originally within the scope of the project, you were willing to subcontract this work instead of deferring it to us to manage. The difficulty for us was that the work being performed was at such a high quality level there was not much room to compromise on the needed variations to the project. We felt you kept to fair pricing when additional material and labor was warranted. We are extremely happy and very satisfied with the work. In fact, both the front porch and rear screen room and deck look even better than we originally imagined. We wish you much future success with your business and will highly recommend you to others whenever the opportunity presents itself.
Norman Builders did a fantastic job with our home addition project. Their attention to quality, detail, and superior workmanship has produced a finished product that is the envy of the entire neighborhood. The professionalism and dedication displayed on a daily basis made this project an extremely positive experience for my family. I enthusiastically recommend Norman Builders to anyone considering a home construction project. You'll be glad you did.
From the first time we met with Ryan Norman, we knew he was the builder we wanted to work with. His calm, relaxed demeanor in talking through all the details in preparation for signing the contract inspired confidence. From the first day of the job it was clear that everyone in his crew was on the same page, and work never stopped from October 1st thru the end of the job six months later. Keep in mind that through the last two and a half months of the job, the men had to sometimes shovel or blow snow out of the way before they could even get into the house to work. This was not an easy job for Ryan's crew. Our house is 120 years old, and once the walls were opened up there were many obstacles to be negotiated to meet the design specifications. Never once did they try to talk us out of something we wanted in our design in favor of taking a short cut that would make the work easier for them. We ended up with exactly what our designer drew up, with some recommendations from Dale on how to make things work even better. I might add that we were could not have been easy clients to work with. We had several add-ons that were not in the original contract. Every time we approached Ryan and Dale with another request, tearing out a fireplace and rebuilding it on the fly, adding small improvements to other rooms, they were perfectly professional, and put up with a lot of requests from us, and also some bull from a contractor we wanted to go with before we finally found someone who could do the job right and coordinate well with Ryan's crew. We used more than one sub-contractor chosen by ourselves. Ryan and his people communicated and worked well with whoever came on the job. Ryan's own subs, especially his plumber and electrician and tile person, did an excellent job. It was clear that each of them took pride in their work. This was our first experience with a renovation, and it was difficult to give our house over to someone and trust that it would turn out alright. In fact it turned out better than we imagined. I don't know if the workmanship can be matched anywhere. We highly recommend Norman Builders for whatever you have planned. The job will get done right.
