Norman Builders remodeled this primary bathroom in the Phillips area of Andover, MA, completed in 2022 with an $80,000 budget band: the layout was reworked for openness and light, around a walk-in shower in floor-to-ceiling marble-look porcelain with a bench, niches and frameless glass, and a custom double vanity.

A Bath That Felt Like a Hotel Suite

The homeowners had lived for years with a dated, compartmentalized bathroom that did not match the rest of their home. Their goal was simple: a primary bath that felt more like a luxury hotel suite than a typical residential bathroom, bright and open, with good storage and a spacious shower.

An Open Layout Around the Windows

We reworked the layout for openness and natural light. The large existing windows were kept to bring in as much daylight as possible, and the frameless glass shower enclosure lets light flow freely through the room. Walls are painted a soft neutral gray, with recessed LED lighting and decorative chrome wall sconces.

The Walk-In Shower

The custom walk-in shower is the centerpiece of the room. The porcelain carries through the shower pan and the bench surfaces to match the walls, with chrome fixtures and a handheld shower system behind tempered glass.

The Double Vanity

The double vanity has custom painted shaker-style cabinetry for storage, a quartz countertop with under-mount porcelain sinks, chrome widespread faucets and framed decorative mirrors. The floor is marble-look porcelain tile to match the shower, finished with a custom millwork and trim package.

Two Andover Primary Baths, Four Years Apart

Every finish here was chosen for durability and ease of maintenance as well as looks. Our 2026 spa-inspired primary bath, also in Andover ($60,000), used floor-to-ceiling textured porcelain in the shower, a freestanding soaking tub, a custom white oak double vanity and brushed brass fixtures with backlit mirrors, replacing a builder-grade bathroom. This 2022 bath uses marble-look porcelain, a painted shaker vanity and chrome fixtures. Our bathroom remodeling page covers how we plan a bath, including timelines and permits.
