Norman Builders renovated this primary bathroom in Andover, MA, completed in 2026 with a $60,000 budget band, replacing a builder-grade bath with a freestanding soaking tub set in the natural light, a custom white oak double vanity with white quartz, a walk-in shower in floor-to-ceiling textured porcelain, and brushed brass fixtures and mirrors.
Out With the Builder-Grade Bath
The homeowners had lived for years with a builder-grade primary bathroom. They wanted a room to begin and end each day in comfort, with the clean lines of modern design and the warmth of natural materials. Their reference point was a luxury boutique hotel suite.
Why the Details Decided It
They wanted a fully designed room that felt timeless and fit the rest of the house, and they looked for a builder who paid close attention to details. After meeting with Norman Builders and reviewing our portfolio of custom renovations, they chose our team, and we helped guide their selections throughout.
Warm Wood, White Quartz, Brushed Brass
The palette came from high-end resorts and spa retreats. Custom white oak cabinetry brings natural texture and warmth to the double vanity, white quartz countertops keep the surface clean and durable, and brushed brass plumbing fixtures and mirrors add contrast without crowding the room. Backlit mirrors light the vanity.
The Tub and the Shower
A freestanding soaking tub is the focal point, placed to take advantage of natural light. Soft neutral tile and the surrounding finishes keep that corner calm. The walk-in shower has floor-to-ceiling textured porcelain tile behind a frameless glass enclosure, adding visual interest while keeping the clean, minimal look the homeowners wanted. Large-format porcelain floor tile covers the bathroom floor.
The Finish Work
During construction our team aligned the tile patterns, placed the lighting and the brass mirrors above the vanity, and installed custom storage cabinetry. We worked with the homeowners through the job to guide their selections.
How It Compares with Our Other Primary Baths
Our four standalone primary-bath projects used three fixture finishes: chrome in Byfield (2019, $85,000) and in the Andover Phillips-area bath (2022, $80,000), brushed nickel in Boxford (2026, $65,000), and brushed brass here (2026, $60,000). The cabinetry differs too: stained wood in Byfield, painted shaker in Phillips, maple in Boxford and white oak here. Boxford, the other 2026 bath, also has a freestanding tub but adds a heated towel warmer and luxury vinyl tile flooring. Our bathroom remodeling page covers how we plan a bath, including timelines and permits.

About This Project
What did this Andover primary bath remodel cost?
The project's budget band was $60,000, completed in 2026, the lowest of our four standalone primary-bath projects, which ranged up to $85,000 (Byfield, 2019).
What does replacing a builder-grade bathroom involve?
Here it meant a full redesign: a new freestanding tub, a custom white oak double vanity with quartz, a floor-to-ceiling tiled walk-in shower with frameless glass, new flooring, and brushed brass fixtures and mirrors.
What tile is in the shower?
Floor-to-ceiling textured porcelain tile on the walls, behind a frameless glass enclosure, with large-format porcelain on the bathroom floor.
Have you remodeled other bathrooms in Andover?
Yes. In 2022 we remodeled a primary bath in the Phillips area of Andover with marble-look porcelain and a shower bench, and our Andover whole-home renovation included a spa-inspired primary bath with a curbless shower.
