Norman Builders renovated this 3,000 sq ft, 4-bedroom, 2.5-bath home in North Andover, MA, completed in 2023 with a $700,000 budget band: a redesigned kitchen with a custom walnut island and full-height stone backsplash, a family-room fireplace wall with built-ins, a beverage and wine station, a white oak primary bath and custom mudroom storage.
What Was Not Working
After years in the house, the owners were frustrated by rooms that no longer fit the way they lived. The kitchen felt compartmentalized, storage was limited, and the finishes lacked the warmth and character they wanted. They wanted better function and elegant finishes in a house that worked for family gatherings, quiet evenings and entertaining friends.
Why They Chose Norman Builders
Finding the right builder mattered to them. They wanted one team to handle both the design details and the construction, with a high standard of craftsmanship throughout. After reviewing Norman Builders' portfolio and talking through their goals, they hired us. During construction, the homeowners, their designers and our team worked closely on every finish and design decision, from cabinet layouts and appliance placement to tile and lighting.
A Walnut Island and a Stone Backsplash
The kitchen was completely redesigned. Painted shaker cabinets surround a custom walnut island that is both the focal point and the main gathering spot, with quartz countertops, a professional-grade appliance package, a custom range hood and a full-height marble-look stone backsplash. Oversized windows wrap the sink area, and cabinet, drawer and appliance locations were planned to improve the workflow and add storage. Our kitchen remodeling page explains how we plan a kitchen like this.
A Fireplace Wall That Hides Storage
In the family room, a custom fireplace wall with integrated cabinetry and shiplap detailing gives the room its focal point and adds concealed storage. Wide-plank white oak flooring, custom millwork and consistent trim connect the family room, kitchen and the rest of the house.
A Beverage and Wine Station for Hosting
Entertaining was important to the homeowners, so the renovation added a custom beverage and wine station: dark cabinetry, illuminated glass storage, integrated wine refrigeration and brushed brass hardware, beside the doorway to the dining room.
Primary Bath and Mudroom
The primary bath has a custom white oak vanity with quartz tops and matte black fixtures, and an oversized walk-in shower in large-format porcelain tile with hexagonal mosaic accents and a custom glass enclosure. Custom mudroom storage adds a built-in bench, hooks and tall cabinets. See our bathroom remodeling page for how we plan a primary bath.
Next to Our Andover Whole-Home Renovation
Our 2026 whole-home renovation in Andover was a similar house: 2,900 sq ft with 4 bedrooms and 2.5 baths, against 3,000 sq ft here, and both got custom mudroom storage and a wine station. That one, at a $1,000,000 budget band, used polished nickel, a white painted island and a curbless shower; this one used a walnut island, matte black fixtures and a white oak vanity. The same year as this project, we also completed a kitchen-focused entertainer's kitchen remodel in North Andover ($175,000). For how we plan and run a renovation at this scale, see our whole-house renovations page.
